Poggio Scalette

Podere Poggio Scalette became an autonomous wine-producing estate in 1991 when Vittorio Fiore, who is widely recognized as the “Master of Sangiovese” in Italy, and his wife Adriana acquired several plots of land and a rural building on the hill of Ruffoli in the township of Greve in Chianti, in the very heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. The family estate is now directly run by Vittorio's son Jurij (a graduate of the School of Viticulture and Oenology of Beaune in Burgundy) and Alessandro with the overall supervision of Vittorio. The marketing of the wines, instead, has been assigned to another son Alessandro for export markets. Total annual production is around 60,000 btls per year.

'Il Carbonaione' is their first and the most signature wine - a 100% Sangiovese IGT using vines planted in the decade following the First World War. In recent years, the vineyards have been converted to biodynamic farming. This magnificent masterpiece is all about the pure fruit, terrific harmony and endless length.
